Our team at Feet First Podiatry consists of professional podiatrists, a Foot Health Practitioner (FHP), and trained Foot Care Assistants, all dedicated to delivering the highest standards of foot care. We are committed to providing expert advice and exceptional service to ensure the best outcomes for healthier feet.

Charlotte Russell

B.Sc. (Hons), Dip. Pod. (NZ) NZ Reg.Pod

Charlotte is Feet First Podiatry's fearless team leader. Charlotte is both our Owner and Director and our Senior Podiatrist, with over 35 plus years of experience. Charlotte studied in Wellington and the University of Brighton (UK) for her Post Graduate BSc, Charlotte went on to study the management of the diabetic foot with a Winston Churchill Scholarship in 1995. Charlotte previously worked for 13 years as a Senior Podiatrist at the Christchurch Diabetes Centre, alongside her practice, formerly Charlotte Russell Podiatry which was started over 20 years ago, to Feet First Podiatry which was formed in 2002.

David Ilian

BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine

David brings 27 years of podiatry experience all the way from London to Christchurch. Known for his knack in solving even the trickiest foot problems, David finds great satisfaction in discovering the best solutions for your feet.
With a special focus on musculoskeletal injuries—whether you're an athlete or not—David has earned a reputation for his expertise. He’s passionate about helping you stay on your feet, pain-free, and enjoying life to the fullest.
When he’s not in the clinic, you might find him practicing martial arts—because even podiatrists need strong feet!

Maria Adell Solaesa

Podiatrist Degree, Universitat de València,

Originally from Spain, Maria brings a warm, friendly presence and a strong international background in Podiatry. She completed her four-year Podiatry degree in Spain with an exchange year in Italy and expanded her clinical knowledge working in the United Kingdom, where she gained valuable insights and experience in diverse podiatric practices.
Maria shares a passion for general podiatric care and high-risk foot management, closely aligning with Charlotte’s clinical focus. Her approachable nature, welcoming attitude, and genuine care for patients help create a comfortable and supportive environment from the moment you walk through the door.
Outside the clinic, Maria enjoys exploring the outdoors, travelling, and staying active through sports.

Jael Paterson

Footcare Assistant

Jael is our friendly and dedicated Foot Care Assistant at Feet First Podiatry. Her previous studies at the Ara Institute of Canterbury saw her complete a one-year qualification in Beauty Therapy before she transitioned into a more clinically focused and rewarding career in foot health.
Jael is passionate about helping people feel comfortable, cared for, and confident. Her beauty therapy background, combined with her interest in foot health, allows her to provide thoughtful, detail-focused care while ensuring every patient feels at ease.
Jael is extensively in-house trained and mentored by our Senior Podiatrist and Director, Charlotte Russell. She is currently completing the Accord Foot Therapy Training Programme and will begin the Careerforce Apprenticeship in Primary Care Practice Assistance in April 2026.

Yvonne McDonald

Lead Front of House

Yvonne is the warm and welcoming face you'll see first when you visit or call Feet First Podiatry. As our Front of House Receptionist and Administrator, she’s dedicated to providing friendly and professional service to every patient, their families, and caregivers.

With a rich background spanning retail banking, project management, and administration, Yvonne’s expertise is invaluable to our team. She holds qualifications in Business Administration, Firstline Business Management, and Xero Accounting, and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Apiary from Otago University.

Outside of work, Yvonne enjoys spending time with her family and caring for over 100,000 bees. Her hobbies include dressmaking, reading, fitness activities, and being involved in her local church.

Maree Hopkins

Part-Time Receptionist

Maree, a familiar face to customers at The Shoe Room, also assists at the Feet First Podiatry reception on Wednesdays. Hailing from Southland, she brings over 18 years of experience in retail and administration.

While we’re working on converting her to the wonders of Christchurch, Maree's friendly smile and wealth of experience continue to enhance every patient’s visit.

Courtney Rhodes

Practice Manager

Courtney has been the Practice Manager at Feet First Podiatry since 2016 and is the calm, organised force keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Originally from the USA, she now calls Christchurch home after marrying a Kiwi and raising her family here.

Courtney oversees the business operations of both Feet First Podiatry and The Shoe Room, juggling spreadsheets, schedules, and problem-solving with ease. Friendly, approachable, and always happy to help, she enjoys supporting both patients and the team. While she’s often found in the back office making things happen, Courtney is never far away and is always up for a chat — especially if it involves a good conversation and a friendly hello.
